My memories of her are mostly when she was on the edge of being diagnosed as having Alzheimer's. And yes, I believe she loved us. Like Daddy, she really tried but her efforts were hindered by the annoyances. And too, I wish I could have known Mom-Moms in her lucid years to ask her about the freaky shit she was into - such as the crystal ball and that society whose name I can't spell. I would also love to ask her why she never went to church with Daddy and Pop-Pops when Daddy was little. But when it comes to grandfathers, Pop-Pops might have been the one to provide the love and caring that I wish Pa-paw could have given more freely.
Just because of the distance, Lauren and William are not going to be able to develop the close relationships with John's parents (who are incredible, wonderful people) that they should have. I hope this will not always be, but that we will suddenly come into enough money for the kids to go back and forth to Ireland.
Sometimes you have to make up for your sucky family relationships with friends. I am very thankful that I have mine.|||79659955|||
