I think he might have been having some, or maybe even a lot of, bad dreams lately because he doesn't like to sleep in a room by himself and he keeps Cassius with him when he sleeps. When I was little, I frequently had disturbing dreams and my parents gave me a little stuffed koala bear for my 7th birthday. My father told me that Cassius, the koala bear - my mother named him (it was 1978), would chase away all the monsters and bad dreams so that I could sleep. I latched on to that concept of Cassius as the Great Protector, and as late as the 8th grade, I was loaning Cassius out to my friends who were plagued by nightmares.
So, now, I have given Cassius to Bear, and I think it's working. He didn't have any bad dreams last night, but what he did dream was a little weird and creepy. He dreamt that he met his great-great-grandmother. He doesn't know which one. He told me some convoluted story (aren't dreams always convoluted?) about how she was in her bed and there were doors. The doors were closed so that she wouldn't be annoyed, but he knew how to bypass them. He said she was just starting to get old, but she hadn't gotten there yet. She wanted to meet him, he told me, because she hadn't met him yet. But, he was younger in his dream. He was only two, and he knew he was two because he couldn't say his own name properly. He said that he had dreamt about her the night before too but in that dream he was only seven months old.
I asked him if his great-great-grandmother was Irish, and he was confused. He asked me if she had ever been to Ireland, and I said that I didn't know but I was trying to figure out which one she was. The conversation pretty much ended there.
Wouldn't it be great if Bear had been visited by one of his ancestors? This is the kind of thing that I tend not to believe in, but how wonderful it would be if it were true - unless, of course, it was the great-great-grandfather that used to sit naked out in the yard on a warm summer's day playing with himself. |||108739878192638691|||Bear's Ancestral Vision
