After I parked the car, I couldn't shift it into park. I even turned off the engine, but the car still wouldn't shift into park. I had my foot on the brake, and I could shift it into every other position, but not park. And then, I couldn't turn the engine back on. I started to panic. My cell phone is dead, and the battery charger was in my car on a different level. I didn't know what to do. Should I run upstairs to my office and call her at the airport - hoping that she hadn't boarded yet and could walk me through this unknown feature of her vehicle? Should I call a Pontiac dealership? Could I stop someone in the garage and ask for help? Could I even leave the car long enough to run upstairs? Finally, after I tried again and again and read the manual which didn't offer any guidance on this problem, I gave up, left the door slightly open so that the locks wouldn't engage and ran as fast as I could to my co-worker's office on the fifth floor. This particular co-worker does stuff like this all of the time, and I really wasn't worried that she would think me a flaming idiot for not being able to handle the basic operation of a car. Luckily, she was at her desk and didn't appear to be hugely busy. She went back to the car with me, sat down in the driver's seat, put her foot on the brake and shifted the car to park.
Apparently, I just wasn't pressing hard enough on the brake.
