9/19/2004 01:23:08 AM|||Amy|||We wore the wings again today. Bear and Monkey were bees, and I was a butterfly. I wore the butterfly wings in self-defense because bees won't sting a butterfly, right? This logic worked for about two minutes and then a polite request was made that I remove the wings so that I could be properly stung.

My first biological nephew was born today. Since I'm sporting the remnants of a stomach flu and what could be a cold, I probably won't get to meet little Lucky until after he's home from the hospital. Upon hearing the news that Monkey has a new little boy cousin, she replied, "I don't want a boy cousin. I want a girl cousin!" This reminded me of the story of my sister and brother, and their reactions when they were told they had a new baby sister. My sister performed cartwheels in the driveway, and my brother sulked.

I'm sure that Monkey will quickly forget her initial dismay over Lucky's gender - but I couldn't help but think today that her reaction was a direct result of Bear's gloating. Bear really wanted another boy in the family to balance out the girls.
