9/17/2004 11:59:33 PM|||Amy|||I am going to keep this post (originally posted Sept 17, 2004) at the top until the Light the Night event has passed. Seriously, $1 can help, $5 would be wonderful, and anything more than that would be incredible! Please help! (There is no service or additional charge associated with donating through the online site.)

I am going to participate in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night walk on October 23 in Plano, Texas in honor of Allie Scott, the baby who just passed away after a hard battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in Dallas. I am asking everyone for a small donation to support the research which The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society funds to help find a way to stop blood cancer from being an automatic death sentence. I am not a scientist, but I am not convinced that cancer can be cured - I am, however, convinced that it can be managed in such a way that with proper treatment - people can be given a very strong chance for survival and normal quality of life. This requires research. I am familiar with some of the scientists to whom the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society has given funding, and I believe that this is an organization which is not going to squander or misuse the funds they collect.

I am not asking for much from anyone - even a couple of dollars can help! Please visit this website and give what you can. Allie lost her battle, but other children might not with the help of all the men and women in science who are looking for new discoveries that will one day lead us into an increased understanding of cancer, and the ways in which we can stem its terrible tide.
