11/4/2004 02:04:08 PM|||Amy|||Please help me understand this. I know four people who have admitted to voting for Bush. One is a co-worker, another is my father, the third - my soon to be ex husband (but he's not a citizen, so he didn't actually vote) and Winston's godfather. Everyone else I know, and the authors of the blogs I read, have expressed or implied their support of Kerry. It must be that I only seek out those who share my viewpoints because, even though I live in Texas, I don't seem to run across a whole lot of Bush supporters. So, just from my microcosmic view of things, I don't see how it's possible that Bush received more than 30% of the vote. 52%, or whatever it ended up being, sounds like a dirty lie.

Is my world so small and one-sided that I have somehow excluded those who think differently to me? Do I avoid them because of the way in which I shamefully place judgments on their level of intelligence based on the manner in which they slur words together and add ch sounds where there should be a crisply edged t (as in: rytch ear for right here) and flatten the a with an acidic twist in words such as can't & and?

Granted all of those with whom I work are highly educated and liberal (labeled as such because they tend to think that scientific research is good and helpful to humans), but I talk to other people outside of work - so much so that I think I come in daily contact with a diverse group of people. They sure seem diverse anyway.

So, my question is: where are all those people who voted for Bush? I live in Bush country for Christ's sake - why is everyone so goddamned depressed today if they voted for Bush? Is it buyer's remorse already?

Whatever. I am, possibly, another liberal damned to spend eternity cutting up tree trunks to make cigarette papers for Satan.
