First Post Trauma Ride
My first outing on the bike today lasted about a mile. The scabbing on my knee is making it very tight, and I grew more and more uncomfortable with each pedal stroke. I also crossed over some dodgy gravel and that brought to mind images of blood and horrible pain. Since I had already perched atop my bike for a full five minutes before pushing off so that I could savor the memory of how six days ago I was in so much pain that passing out seemed a perfectly acceptable and preferable option, I wasn’t too keen on the ride anyway. So, I made a very early decision to scrap today’s attempt, and try again tomorrow or maybe the day after or maybe the day after that. Whenever.
I will get back on. I am determined. I’m just not going to jump in the deep end right at first.
I haven’t signed up for the rally. Since I’ve now officially missed early registration, I may talk myself out of this one. Still, I’ve already found childcare, and apart from having to pay 7 bucks extra for on site registration, I don’t have a reason to not go. There are a few others this summer… the Paris, Texas ride and the hellish and hilly Goatneck that I am sure I will find some good excuses to miss.
